Sainsbury's EDI

1) INTRODUCTION

Sainsbury's Supermarkets are the UK's longest standing major food retailing chain, having opened its first store in 1869. The Sainsbury's brand is built upon a heritage of providing customers with healthy, safe, fresh and tasty food.

Today Sainsbury's differentiates itself by offering a broad range of great quality products at fair prices with particular emphasis on fresh food, a strong ethical approach to business and continuous leadership and innovation.

Products are improved and developed to ensure the company leads in terms of the ingredients used and integrity of sourcing. A large Sainsbury's store offers around 30,000 products and an increasing number of stores also offer complementary non-food products and services. 165 stores also operate an internet-based home delivery shopping service.

Sainsbury’s are currently writing to their suppliers regarding an EDI re-platforming initiative which they intend to develop and implement in the next 12 months.

Atlas is pleased to reassure you that you do not need to move EDI provider in order to obtain the full benefit of trading with Sainsbury’s via the new Wesupply application. Therefore you will not have to incur any additional cost or service disruption. The Sainsbury’s communication dated 9 June 2009 confirms that “Sainsbury's are still happy for you to continue to use your current EDI supplier”.

Atlas already has the necessary connection in place with Wesupply via GXS to enable you to trade with Sainsbury’s. So, you can continue to communicate as usual with Sainsbury’s via your existing Atlas EDI service and will not need to Interconnect.

The new process is illustrated below.
